My firefighting, skate board riding, cowboy is FOUR! He celebrated his birthday in style, with three days of being totally spoiled.
Saturday, Memere and Papa took him to see Annie the musical at the Performing Arts Center and out for a steak dinner (his all-time favorite). He enjoyed his special day out with grandma and grandpa and has been singing "the sun will come out tomorrow" ever since.
Sunday, I woke up at 7:00 am to Tyler singing Happy Birthday to himself in the bathroom mirror - too cute! He was very excited for his big party day. First we spent a couple hours at the Alaska Zoo celebrating his friend Marcus's fourth birthday. Right after Marcus's party we went home and got ready for Tyler's. It was a busy afternoon, but the boys had a great time. Tyler and his friends got a tour of Fire station 15. The "newbie" firefighter got assigned tour duty and was a really great sport about giving a tour to a bunch of 1 to 4 year olds and their parents. They got to see all the cool rooms in the fire station - the kitchen, gym, and bunk rooms. And most important of all they got to see the firetrucks, check out all the firefighting equipment and even got to pretend they were driving the truck. We ended the party back at our house with pizza, an awesome firetruck cake (more details to come on that!) and ice cream. It was pretty hectic to have 10+ kids running around our house - what was I thinking?!! But, all in all, they had a great time. Tyler was exhausted by the end of the night and was asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.
Monday,Finally Tyler's actual birthday! Tyler thought since it was his special day, he should get a special breakfast - the cake we eat at Christmas (meaning coffee cake). We had one last birthday surprise for him - a birthday treasure hunt! I placed photo clues all over the house that lead him to his big birthday gift - a trampoline for the backyard. He loved the treasure hunt and was actually disappointed when we got to the present - he wanted more clues! Once he realized the treasure was an actual trampoline he got over his disappointment. I think the treasure hunt will be a birthday tradition we continue each year! We ended the day with a spaghetti dinner and cupcakes at Memere and Papa's house.
It was a busy couple of days, but so worth it for our little birthday boy. Check out the slide shows below for some pictures of our three days of fun!
